GREEN CITY, MO. -- A benefit was held in Green City to help raise money for Jeffery Sayre's family.

Jeffery was in a serious accident back in December, sustaining serious brain injuries. Dozens from the community came out to donate money and food while participating in a live and silent auction.

Melissa Bennett, the organizer for the benefit tells us the entire community pulled together to help the family.

"He was in a really bad automobile accident December 4th and has spend several weeks in the Des Moines hospital," Bennett said. "He was air lifted over there. within the first two weeks of being there he had already go a bill of over $200,000. He had no insurance, he just got a new job and hadn't quite gotten his 90 days yet. so we're just trying to help out the family, do the best for our own community."

Bennett tells us the family is trying to take it one day at a time, as Jeffery continues to go through therapy
