With snow, you also have freezing temperatures to deal with.

There are some easy tips that are sometimes forgotten during a snowstorm.

Extreme cold can cause water pipes in your home to freeze and sometimes break.

So, you want to leave all water taps slightly open so they drip continuously.    

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention also recommend opening kitchen cabinet doors under the kitchen sink.

And, if your pipes do freeze thaw them slowly with warm air from a blow dryer.

Many people during the winter use portable space heaters to keep them warm, but you want to remember never use them on top of furniture or near water.

And if you can, buy an electric space heater with automatic shut off switches.

If you are in an emergency and there is no water available, snow can be melted for water.

Bringing the water to a boil for a few minutes will kill most germs, but you should know it won't get rid of chemicals sometimes found in snow.
