KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- With experts beginning to call this extreme drought the worst the Show-Me State has experienced since the 1950s, one agency is stepping up to help northeast Missouri producers.

The Adair County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) announced that the Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) has been approved for Adair County.

Producers now can sign up for cost-share assistance for livestock water in areas impacted by the severe drought and are in a water emergency need.

"We are in a very serious water shortage in this county right now. Our ponds are as low as I've ever seen them. I've been here since 1982. They're in bad shape. Some of the bigger ponds are all right. That's what we want to do. We want to hook up to the adequate water sources and get it out to those pastures that don't have those big ponds built in," said Adair County USDA Farm Service Agency Executive Director Philip Ayers.

Producers must submit their requests for ECP assistance to the FSA by Sept. 25.
