KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- If you heard some of Kirksville's emergency warning sirens sounding Wednesday night, you weren't imagining it.

Two of the sirens went off unexpectedly around 9 p.m.: the one in Brashear Park and the one next to Kelly Furniture.

The blaring sirens put several residents on edge.

Adair County E-911 Director Chris Killday told KTVO the phone at the dispatch center rang off the hook with residents either reporting the sirens going off or wanting to know why they were sounding.

KTVO also received a handful of phones calls about it and a few questions about it on the station's facebook page.

Killday said it was a malfunction of some sort.

They aren't exactly sure what caused them to suddenly go off.

She said the same thing happened about a week ago with the siren in Brashear Park.

Killday said the two sirens that the city is having issues with are two of the oldest in the city.

Kirksville has a total of eight emergency warning sirens.

Killday said a repairman is coming either Friday or Monday to look into the problem.
