Authorities are investigating after a body was found southwest of Kirksville.

KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Update March 18, 2013 8:30 a.m.

The victim has been identified as Michael Ryan, 55, of Blue Springs, Missouri. The death is not suspicious in nature.

Authorities are investigating after a body was found just southwest of Kirksville.

The body was discovered at Sugar Creek Conservation Area about 4 miles southwest of Kirksville around 1:45 Saturday afternoon.

Adair County Sheriff Robert Hardwick tells us they are still looking into who discovered the body, but he says the body is that of a white male in his mid- to late 50s.

Right now, the Adair County Sheriffs, Adair County Prosecutor, county coroner and the Missouri Department of Conservation are all investigating this discovery.

They are working to notify family, so the man's name has not yet been released.

The circumstances surrounding the man's death is unknown at this time.
