Former deputy admits stealing from department

EDINA, MO. -- A former Knox County Sheriff’s deputy has entered guilty pleas in his case.

Howard Smith, 36, of Edina, entered the guilty pleas to felony charges of stealing, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest by fleeing. Smith entered the pleas in a Knox county courtroom on Friday in connection with the theft of a police-issued radio and other items and the sale of those items on eBay.

Smith is scheduled to be sentenced on May 10th at 9 a.m. The case was prosecuted by the Missouri Attorney General's office, as a special prosecutor.
