Jane Pipes, 92, passed away at the Milan Healthcare Center in Milan, MO, on March 4, 2013. She had been a resident there for nine years.

Louetta Jane Pipes was born in Council Bluffs, IA, October 8, 1920, the daughter of Howard S. and Elizabeth M. (Goering) Back, who preceded her in death.  She graduated from Senn High School in Chicago, IL, in 1938. Jane married Elihue “Pidge” Pipes in Unionville, MO, on December 22, 1939, and he preceded her in death on May 7, 2006.

Jane and Elihue moved to Chicago, IL, soon after they were married where Elihue worked with Canteen Corporation.  That worked took them to Los Angeles, CA, in 1950.  Jane and Elihue retired to Lake Isabella, CA, were Jane worked as a bookkeeper for L & M Lumber Company.  The couple moved back to Elihue’s home place north of Unionville in 1975 and they eventually moved into Unionville in 1985.

Jane was a member of the Unionville Garden Club.  She also liked to build and put together large doll houses, even making the furniture and decorating the houses, some of which were donated to the Putnam County Historical Society.  She enjoyed garage sales, but liked most to be at home.  She and Elihue were members of the Elks Lodge while in California.

Jane is survived by a son, Dennis Pipes and his wife Teresa Pipes of Austin, TX, and by two granddaughters, Shannon Pipes and Noelle Hayes.  Two great grandchildren also survive: Emily Monaster and Dean Monaster.  She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Cook and Marian Anderson.

Jane’s body was donated to medical science at her request and there will be no services.
