KIRKSVILLE, MO -- A new Heartland restaurant is open for business and is giving a new name for a home-cooked meal.

It's Time Cafe had its grand opening at the Downtown Kirksville Square Tuesday.

The business is located where the old Uptown Cafe once was.

The food is all made from scratch and most of items on the menu, such as vegetables and eggs, come from local producers.

Owner Mike Koenig told KTVO he wanted his restaurant to break away from corporate restaurant structure and be like a mom and pop place that offers fresh food and making the customers the number one priority.

"I just wanted to come back to where I grew up, here in Kirksville, and be able to offers something that uses locally produced stuff. We use a lot of labor and spend a lot of time with our customers. We want to be able to enjoy our people and that people come in and enjoy us as well," Koenig said.

Koenig said he and his staff are excited and want to have a fun time working at It's Time Cafe.

The restaurant is open seven days a week. The  Monday-Saturday hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday hours are 10:30 am. to 8 p.m.

The cafe offers meals for breakfast and lunch.
