For our Facebook Story of The Day, many of you wanted to know if it's legal to keep farm animals inside of city limits.

In the city of Kirksville, it's legal to have farm animals. But there are some requirements that must be met.

You must have at least 20,000 square feet of property that can't include the land your house is sitting on.

You can have one large animal such as a cow, horse, sheep, or 25 ducks, chickens, or geese for every 10,000 square feet of the property.

Even though having farm animals is allowed, city officials say it's not common.

"We really don't see that many. The larger lots are on the outer edges of the town, and there are some small farms in the city limits that have animals, but we get very few complaints," said City of Kirksville Codes and Planning Director Brad Selby.

The city also has a fencing requirement that animals have to be 100 feet from the front line of the property and 30 feet from the sides and the back of it as well.
