KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Members of Life Church in Kirksville are making sure the community remembers the reason why Easter is a celebration.
On Good Friday, they spread out along Business 63 and stood on the curbside, holding a cross and waving to drivers passing by. They said the peaceful demonstration represents the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
"A lot of times we get busy in our lives and this weekend goes by us and it's so commercialized that we lose sight of what's so important about this weekend," said John Hanley, a Deacon at Life Church. "So, it's a reminder for Christians of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus."
"God calls us to be a servant to the world so that what we can be here, and help people, and show them that you don't have to be anything big," said Ryan Hanley, a member of Life Church. "You can be who you are and do great things for God."
"It's right for people to know about God and it's good to praise God," said 9-year-old Navaro Ellis, also a member of Life Church.
Life Church members said Christians carried the cross along Highways 63 and 60, making a physical cross stretching across the state.
Easter services at Life Church will be held at 10 a.m. April 8.
