OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Wapello County 4-H Expo continued Friday in Ottumwa at the Bridge View Center.

Several participants have already had their projects or livestock judged. The expo kicked off Monday with a horse show and has had several events take place throughout the week.

This year’s expo has seen a lot of foot traffic, mostly from people trying to beat the heat.

Some of the kids participating in the expo shared with KTVO their favorite part of the event.

“I participate in the poultry show because it is a fun learning experience for all ages of kids and I do it because I enjoy it a lot,” said Janielle.

I love the rabbit show mainly, and animals. I usually buy them in Oskaloosa and enter them whenever their ears are big enough to get tattooed. That is what I go by,” said Michael.

Meat Goat participants Treton and Austin explained to KTVO how they got involved in 4-H.

“My parents were in 4-H. So that is how I got involved,” Treton said.

“Well I got involved because of him (Treton). He had me show one of his goats last year, so that is what got me involved. I got reserve and grand champion today for goats,” Austin said.

Over 30 kids will be heading to the Iowa State Fair from Wapello County when it begins in August to compete.
