Truman State University volleyball head coach Ben Briney has announced the signing of Lacey Hill and Bailey O’Drobinak to national letters of intent for the 2013 season. Both will join the Bulldog volleyball squad as true freshmen.
Lacey Hill (6-foot-0; OH/OPP; Shorewood, Ill.; Providence HS)
Hill is set to join the Bulldog program after playing her final season of high school volleyball at Providence High School near Chicago.
She played both as an outside hitter as well as a right-side hitter both for her high school program as well as her club.
Hill continues a family tradition of playing past high school, as her two older sisters have both competed at the collegiate level.
Lacey is the daughter of David and Lindsay Hill and plans to study Business Administration at Truman.
Briney on Hill: “Lacey really impressed us at camp with her power.
She is a physically strong volleyball player that hits a very heavy ball and can swing on both the outside and right-side effectively.
She has very good ball control and trains with a very good club in UNO, so she will come in with a good fundamental base.
We are looking forward to seeing her develop on the outside. Her best volleyball is ahead of her.”
Bailey O’Drobinak (6-foot-1; MB; Naperville, Ill.; Naperville North HS)
O’Drobinak was named to the IHSA all-tournament team in 2012 after hitting .429 and averaging more than 1.2 blocks per set during her senior season.
She was a four-year starter in high school, having helped guide her program to a conference title in 2011 and a third-place finish in 2012.
Her club team, Sports Performance, took first place in the JVA Invite in the 18 Blue division in 2012.
Bailey is the daughter of Larry and Cindy O’Drobinak and is undecided on her major at Truman.
Briney on O’Drobinak: “Bailey comes from one of the most well-known clubs in the country in Sports Performance.
The two things that we noticed right away about Bailey was that she hits very well off one foot, and works incredibly hard to be up in transition all the time.
Bailey should come in and be able to adapt to our offensive and blocking systems right away.”
The Bulldogs are coming off a 27-7 season that resulted in an NCAA tournament berth and fourth-place finish in the MIAA.
The Bulldogs will move to the Great Lakes Valley Conference in 2013 and will open the season in early September.
