Megan Sharpe and Allie Brak lead Truman State volleyball to another win

Megan Sharpe put up 18 kills and 12 blocks, Allie Brak led all players with 21 kills, and the No. 13 Bulldogs put four players in double-figure digs during a five-set road victory at Emporia (Kan.) State on Friday night.
 
Truman (26-5, 14-3 MIAA) had to go the distance against the host Hornets (18-11, 8-8 MIAA) who battled back from 1-0 and 2-1 set deficits in the match to stay alive.

The Bulldogs hit a collective .259, putting down 70 team kills and out-blocking ESU 15-12.
 
After taking the opening set 25-20, the Bulldogs were poised to jump ahead 2-0 by leading 24-21 in the second.

However, the Hornet bounced back, staving off three set points and eventually stealing a 29-27 decision to even the match.

Truman cruised to a 25-14 win in the third before the Hornets turned the tables again, winning the fourth by a 25-18 margin.
 
In the fifth, the teams played to 12 ties and six lead changes, trading points all the way to 12-all before the Bulldogs capitalized on a Hornet service error to take a 13-12 lead in front of a Brak ,

Sharpe’s 18 kills and 12 blocks came with a .455 hitting percentage for 25.5 total points. Brak posted her second straight 20+ kill match, finishing with a match-high 21 and a .304 hitting mark along with 11 digs.

 Emily Briseno  (11 kills/.375%) and Abby Heise (10 kills/.259%) also hit double-figures offensively, with Zimmerman finishing with 59 assists and 15 digs.

Libero Abby Moser led the ’Dogs with 19 digs, as she, Zimmerman and Brak were joined in double-figure digs by 10 from freshman Sidney King Ali Pattersonrecorded six blocks to go with eight kills and a pair of aces on the offensive end.
 
The Bulldogs close out the regular season on Saturday night by traveling to Northwest Missouri for a 7pm match.

Truman has locked in the No. 4 seed in next week’s conference tournament and will host a quarterfinal match on Tuesday (Nov. 13) night at 7pm in Pershing Arena.
