EDDYVILLE -- The Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) tests a variety of young hunter's abilities.

They should know how to handle a shotgun, be able to do light rifle work, be proficient in archery, among other categories.

YHEC also tests a hunter's mind.

There's a comprehensive test they have to take, figure their way around a map, and know how to operate safely on the hunting trail.

The team from Eddyville won the Iowa competition and now can move on to Raton, New Mexico for the international YHEC competition.

The kids are lucky to have such a great practice facility in Eddyville at the Steel Clay Shooting Sports Range.

This is an incredible honor for the these kids and they can show the world what they're made of next June 7-9 in the Land of Enchantment.

The team can't go to New Mexico on their own.

Over the course of these coming months, the team will solicit businesses and other organizations for their help in going to the international competition.

When all is said and done, the estimation is they will need $11,000 to fund their trip.
