Bulldogs show well at Northwest Open

 Five Bulldogs won individual titles and the men’s 4x400 relay team was victorious on Saturday as the track and field teams competed at the Northwest Missouri State University Open in Maryville.
 
The bulk of the titles came on the men’s side as Joey Walls, Ryan Peterson, Zack Thomas were the victors in their respective events.

Walls won the 800 in a time of 1:56.76, Thomas took first in the 400 meter hurdles in 56.54 and Peterson by a hair in the 400 meter dash as he crossed in 49.78 while the second place runner finished in 49.79.
 
Thomas and Peterson joined Dalton Preston and Matthew Schaefer to win the 4x400 relay over a pair of Bearcat teams.

The foursome finished in 3:26.38 with Schaefer running the anchor leg.
 
Matthew LaPointe posted a season best mark in the pole vault at 13-01.50 and Alexander Cross put up season best marks in the discus (121-00) and javelin (101-11).
 
The women had two individual champions with Anne Ratermann taking the 800 meter run in 2:18.07 and Sidney Baudendistel bettering two other competitors in the high jump going 4-11.75.
 
Jennifer Zweifel was third in the long jump (18-06.50) and second in the triple (39-04.00).

Kelli Hines was second in the pole vault at 10-02.00 and Rachel McCarroll was second in the hammer at 138-05.
 
A handful of Truman athletes will compete in the Kansas Relays next week and then will rejoin the rest of the team at the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday.
