The Truman women’s basketball squad clinched the No. 6 seed in the upcoming MIAA postseason tournament after taking the season sweep over the Lincoln University (Mo.) Tigers in a convincing 82-53 victory on Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs (16-9; 10-9 MIAA) started the game strong, shooting over 58% from the field and 80% from beyond the arc in the first half to post a 15-point lead at half time.

The Tigers (14-11; 8-11 MIAA) hung with Truman for the first few moments of the half, but never produced more than a two-point advantage.

As time progressed, the Bulldogs slowly increased their first half lead with Nicole Gloor posting nine points off the bench.

Truman’s 15-point lead at the break proved to be the smallest lead they would hold after the half, increasing their lead to as many as 32 with 52 seconds left in the game.

Five Bulldogs notched double-digit points, with freshman Allie Norton leading the squad with her career-high 17 points.

Megan Sharpe  matched her career high points with 12 while Gloor and Becka McHenry added 13 of their own. McHenry added seven assists with five rebounds.

Seniors Breanna Daniels  and Jenny Dorman  finished their senior night with 12 and six points, respectively.

Both squads matched up on the boards, both snatching 31 apiece. Gloor led the ‘Dogs with seven and the Tigers’ Vivian Essuon pulled down nine of her own.

The Truman defense held Essuon to only 12 points, almost four lower than her season average of 15.6, which is the fourth highest average in the MIAA.

With 16 regular season victories thus far contribute to the most for the Bulldogs since the 1999-2000 season.

Truman will head to Warrensburg this weekend to wrap up the regular season with a contest against the University of Central Missouri.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to tip-off at 1:30 PM against the Jennies.
