Bulldog Freshman Ryan Maus went 1-1 in the second session of the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships on Friday night and was elimated from the tournament in the consolation second round. Maus was competing in his first championship in the 141-pound bracket at the Health and Sports Center in Kearney, Neb.

In his first match, Maus was taken down by Newberry (S.C.) University's Deral Brown in the extra time to drop the match by a 3-1 score and was sent into the wrestle back round.

Battling Grand Canyon (Ariz.) University's Kyle Wilson in the first match of the evening session, Maus picked up his 30th win of the year with a second period pinfall.

Over an hour later, the freshman returned to the circle to face San Francisco State's Naveed Bagheri with the winner earning all-America honors.

Bagheri began the evening up on top-ranked and defending bracket champ Mario Morgan of Nebraska-Omaha but a late pin by Morgan sent Bagheri into the match with Maus.

Bagheri got a first period takedown that Maus followed with an escape. In the second, Bagheri took the down position and got an escape for the final points of the match and a 3-1 victory.

Maus finishes his season with a  30-14 overall record.
