For the sixth time in program history, the Truman wrestling team has captured the NCAA Div. II Wrestling Coaches Association team all-Academic Championship, coming in with a team grade-point average of 3.467. The award also marks the fourth straight Academic Championship for the squad.

Under the direction of head coach Dave Schutter, Truman becomes the first program to win the championship in four consecutive years. The team GPA is calculated by averaging the cumulative GPA of ten wrestlers from each team of which eight of those wrestlers must have competed in their team’s NCAA national qualifying tournament

Headlining the Bulldogs was senior Dean Schultz, who picked up second-team honors. Schultz, who went 13-12 this season, is a Biology/Pre-Medicine major with a GPA of 3.64.

Also receiving honorable mention status were a host of ’Dogs, including junior Andrew Bader, senior Kazuyuki Hashimoto, freshman Zachary Hayes, senior Bryan Isbell, junior Steve Kueny, sophomore Chad Kurovski and sophomore James Maus.

Schultz and Isbell became four-time members of the all-Academic team.

In order for a student-athlete to be nominated for the Div. II all-Academic team, he needed to have a minimum 3.00 GPA, in at least his second full year at the school, be a varsity member or key reserve, demonstrate a degree of skill and have a minimum of two letters of recommendation submitted on his behalf.

Truman has now won the all-Academic Wrestling title in 1996-97, 2001-02, 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10.
