DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- An attorney for the man accused of killing of a popular Iowa high school football coach has filed court documents saying her client is not competent to stand trial.

Mark Becker is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Aplington-Parkersburg coach Ed Thomas.

On Tuesday, Becker's attorney Susan Flanders filed documents saying a psychological evaluation determined he is not competent to stand trial.

The documents say Becker suffers from hallucinations, has difficulty distinguishing reality from fantasy and has been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Attorney general spokesman Bob Brammer says his office will seek a separate psychological evaluation.

Becker's trial is scheduled for Sept. 15 in Butler County.
