(AP) -- Kansas City-area prep point guard Clayton Custer says he plans to play for Iowa State.

Custer is 6-foot-1 and hails from Overland Park, Kan.

He was a first-team, Class 6A all-state pick as a sophomore for Blue Valley Northwest High last year and has two years of high school ball remaining.

Custer averaged 19 points and eight assists a game. He cited his relationships with coach Fred Hoiberg, assistant T.J. Otzelberger and the Cyclones players as critical in giving his verbal
commitment to Iowa State.

Custer is Iowa State's first recruit in the class of 2014. He picked Iowa State over Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and others.
