Truman men’s basketball secured the MIAA's first men’s basketball award of the 2012-13 season, as junior forward Mike Carlson was selected as the league’s player of the week for his 27-point season-opening performance last Friday night.

Carlsonled all players with 27 points in the season opener against NAIA nationally-ranked William Penn (Iowa) in Truman’s 83-78 loss.

He hit 11-of-23 shots from the floor, including a 3-for-5 mark from three-point range, in 30 total minutes played.

Of his 27 points, 15 came in the first half as he added six rebounds and three steals. It is the first time Carlson has earned the weekly award in his career at Truman.

The Bulldogs pick back up on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm in a home game against Upper Iowa.
