The Truman men’s basketball team gave Division I Southeast Missouri State University all it could handle on Monday night, coming up just short in an 80-75 exhibition loss.

Four players finished in double-figures for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs never fell behind by more than a dozen and kept the deficit within one possession throughout much of the second half after closing the first half on an 11-3 run.

However, the Bulldogs couldn’t get over the edge and take the lead, as SEMO picked up its second exhibition win after defeating Ouachita (Ark.) Baptist by 11 points a week ago.

Mike Carlson  led all Bulldogs with 15 points, going 6-of-11 from the floor, while Isaac Gardner  added 14 points behind four three-pointers and a pair of free throws. EJ Hicks  scored 12 points and added four assists, with newcomer Cory Myers  scoring 11 points and handing out a game-high six assists off the bench.

Marek Bush grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Bulldogs to a 37-34 win in the rebounding battle against a SEMO squad that finished fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference last season.

The Bulldogs shot 43% from the floor, hit 10 three-pointers in shooting 48% from long-range, and went 11-for-17 (64%) from the free throw line.

Truman opens the 2012-13 regular season on Friday night when it hosts William Penn (Iowa) at 7:00 pm in Pershing Arena.
