For the second straight night, the Truman defense shined, holding visiting Northwest Missouri to a -.018 hitting percentage in cruising to a 3-0 (-12, -12, -16) sweep on Saturday evening in Pershing Arena.
The Bulldogs (12-4, 5-2 MIAA) closed a three-win week by needing a little more than an hour to hand Northwest (9-6, 5-1 MIAA) its first conference loss of 2012.
Truman hit .260, had three players with at least eight kills and served six aces to grab its fifth MIAA victory. Freshman Abby Heise hit a team-high .571 with nine kills on just 14 swings, while sophomore Allie Brak closed her stellar week with a nine-kill, eight-dig outing.
Both Heise and Brak dealt a pair of aces, with senior Megan Sharpe totaling eight kills, hitting .389, and digging seven Bearcat attacks.
Sophomore Meghan Zimmerman finished with 27 assists, senior Emily Briseno added a team-high three blocks, and sophomore Abby Moser cleaned up the back line with 15 digs.
The match featured just seven total tie scores (five coming within the first 12 points of the match) and one lead change, as Truman quelled any Bearcat rallies by siding-out at a 69% clip.
Brooke Bartosh led Northwest with six kills, while libero Tori Beckman dug 19 Truman attacks.
The Bulldogs are off until next Friday and Saturday when they travel to Washburn for the annual Lady Blues Fall Classic. Truman will face four Great American Conference schools in two days at the event, starting with a 9:30 am match on Friday, Oct. 5 against East Central (Okla.).
