Austin Hayden and Charlie Backus found the back of the net, and  combined for the first shutout of 2012, as the Truman men’s soccer team logged a 2-0 win at Southwest Baptist.

The Bulldogs (4-2-1, 2-0-1 MIAA) put SBU (1-6, 0-3 MIAA) in a hole right out of the gate, when Hayden scored his first goal of the season in just the game’s fourth minute.

Then, in the 67th, Backus added his first goal of the season to go with his team-best five assists as the Bulldogs pushed the margin to two.

Wallner and Garrone split the halves in net, with Wallner posting two first half saves and Garrone cleaning up one SBU shot on goal in the second half.

Truman took 16 total shots, including 12 in the second half, to SBU’s eight.

The Bulldogs close out a five-match MIAA road trip next weekend with a trip to Northeastern (Okla.) State on Friday and Harding (Ark.) on Sunday.
