(AP) -- Chase Daniel is eager to see how he'llhandle first-team snaps in practice after spending the past three seasons as Drew Brees' understudy.

With Brees holding out for a contract extension, the Saints plan to have Daniel work with the starting offense if Brees is still not signed when offseason practices open next Tuesday.

Daniel, a former Heisman Trophy finalist at Missouri, has been with the Saints since 2009.

However, he has thrown only eight passes in regular season games, completing six for 45 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Receiver Lance Moore says he can tell that Daniel has learned a lot from watching the way Brees leads the team.

Moore says Daniel has the ability to command teammates' attention despite his lack of game experience.
