The Truman Baseball team will play their next six games away from Kirksville starting on Friday as they travel to Emporia State University for a four-game series and then will play a doubleheader against Lincoln University next Tuesday.
The Bulldog pitching was solid but offense lack a punch in dropping three of four to Washburn University last weekend.
Bret Gerstner tossed a complete-game two-hit shutout of the Ichabods for Truman only win during the series and overall the Bulldog staff posted a 2.81 ERA allowing just 10 runs in the four games.
Daniel Jewett (.385) and Jarod Hahn (.300) were the only highlights offensively for the ‘Dogs who hit .227 as a team with just one extra base hit (a double by Jewett).
Game scores for the series were 1-0, 5-2 Washburn, 3-0 Truman and the finale fell 4-3 in favor of the Ichabods.
Truman will be looking to knock ESU out of the ABCA top 30 as the Hornets are 30th in Division II this week and have been in the poll for 41 straight.
Emporia (11-6; 7-5 MIAA) are the MIAA’s top offensive team with a .359 batting average.
Five players hit near or above .400 for the Hornets with Joe Kornbrust leading the way with a .433 mark and five home runs.
The Hornets are averaging over eight runs a game but their pitching staff has given up nearly six a contest.
Brandon Faulkner leads the staff with a 4.00 ERA while Derek Brooks is 4-0 with a 4.13 ERA.
Emporia split a four-game series with Pittsburg State last weekend at home.
The Gorillas took game one 23-10 but was shutout 6-0 in game two. Pitt won game three 9-5 before ESU took the finale 15-2.
