Truman State Baseball to host Washburn

After showing some fight in an extra inning loss to #2 Central Missouri last Sunday, the Truman Baseball team will host Washburn University in a four-game MIAA series that will kick off Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.


Truman (1-11; 0-8 MIAA) pushed the Mules in a pair of games during their weekend series however eight multi-run innings posted by Central aided by 29 walks, 10 hit batsmen and 10 errors led to the series sweep.


A pair of freshman and a senior are hitting above .300 for the Bulldogs thus far. Jarod Hahn is leading the team with a .366 average and Zak Larkin is third with a .343 mark while senior Steven Rose is off to a good start hitting .353 with a team leading six runs batted in.

Sophomore Will Nader enters the weekend with a team-high seven game hitting streak.


The Bulldog pitching staff got solid outings from Tyler Stefan and Paul McMahon against the Mules.

Stefen posted a 1.69 ERA while striking out five in five and a third innings in the opener against Central while McMahon allowed two earned runs in six plus innings while holding the opponent to just a .227 batting average.


Washburn (4-6; 1-3 MIAA) will play St. Mary’s (Texas) on Wednesday before making the trek to Kirksville to begin the four-game series.

 The Ichabods went 1-3 in their MIAA weekend opener on the road last weekend at Pittsburg State (Kan.).

 The Gorillas took the first two by scores of 4-3 and 11-8 with Washburn taking game three 17-1 before falling in 12 innings 7-6 in the finale.


Josh Wilder leads the team with a .533 batting average and John Calhoun is hitting .488 with four home runs and 11 RBIs. Tyler Bean leads the MIAA in earned run average as he has posted a 0.64 ERA while going 2-0 in a pair of starts.

Milestone Watch

•Catcher Devon Myers is 25 hits away from Truman’s all-time hit record of 191 held by Patrick Hardin (2002-05). He is currently seventh and will tie Adam Davis (2003-06) with 8 more hits.


•Myers is two runs scored from the top 10 in Truman history. He has 85 entering this weekend. He is also seven doubles away from tying the Truman record of 40 held by Mike Kubinski (1997-00) and is currently tied for fourth in RBIs with 9with Tony Vandemore.


•Steven Rose has 152 career hits, 83 runs scored, seven triples (fourth all-time) and 547 career at bats which is seventh all-time.


•Pitcher Tyler Stefan is tied for fourth all-time in appearances with 47 and is eight away from Michael Stahir record set last season. He is ninth in both innings pitched with 172.2 and strikeouts with 120.
