Another tough loss for the Truman State Women's Basketball team

The Truman Women’s Basketball team suffered their third one-point loss in MIAA play as they fell to Missouri Western State University 65-64 on Wednesday night on the road.

Alex Noble got a put back with 56 seconds left to give the Griffons their first lead of the night.

The Bulldogs (8-5; 3-5 MIAA) led by as many as 16 points in the first half as they came out blistering the nets making 11 of their first 13 shots but the Griffons (5-8; 3-5 MIAA) fought back with an 11-0 run of their own and trailed by nine at the break.

Western climbed their way back and tied the game at 59 apiece with 1:45 showing. Nicole Gloor temporary gave Truman their advantage back by going 1-of-2 from the foul line with 1:10 left.

Jessica Koch, the MIAA leading scorer, took a shot at the lead but missed however Noble was able to gather the offensive rebound and gave Western the lead at 61-60.

Koch then tied up Jennifer Conway  for a turnover on the Bulldog offensive end and Truman was forced to foul Alicia Bell with 28 seconds remaining.

Bell made both ends of a one and one to put Western up by three.

Becka McHenry pulled Truman to within one with a basket with eight ticks left but Bell was clutch again from the line to maintain the three-point lead.

Truman had a great look at the tie as Allie Norton's three-pointer was halfway down before popping back out where Breanna Daniels only play was to put the ball back in for the one-point loss.

It is the second straight one-point loss for Truman on the road and three of the Bulldogs five conference losses are by a single point.

McHenry led Truman with 18 points while Daniels added 15, 10 in the first half.

The Bulldogs were again plagued by turnover problems as they had 20 for the second straight game.

Truman scored 41 points in the first half but was held to just 23 in the second.

Brittany Griswold led the Griffons with 23 points, going 10-of-22 from the field while Koch was kept well below her season average of 21.5 with 14 for the winners.

The Bulldogs will look to snap their four-game winless streak as they travel to Lincoln University on Saturday in Jefferson City.

The Blue Tigers fell 81-68 at Emporia State (on Wednesday night.
