Indian Hills Community College has one of the richest athletic traditions of any two-year school in the nation and plans are underway for a new venture that will help celebrate that history.

The college this year is establishing an Athletic Hall of Fame with an induction ceremony slated for this winter.

The Hall of Fame will honor former athletes, teams and other individuals who distinguished themselves with their contributions to Indian Hills.

A list of eligibility guidelines has been established.

The inductees could be individuals who played a significant part in the outstanding athletic success that Indian Hills has enjoyed, coaches who have made a difference in the lives of their athletes, or supporters of the athletic program.

Athletes and coaches are eligible for selection to the Hall of Fame after five years have passed since they last competed or coached at IHCC.

Nominations are currently being accepted and it is hoped that the nominees will include individuals or teams from all eras and all sports who achieved excellence in athletic programs on the IHCC Centerville or Ottumwa campuses.

Nomination forms are available at www.indianhills.edu/halloffame

They can also be obtained by calling the IHCC Alumni Office at (641) 683-5302.

The deadline to return the forms is Nov. 21.

A nine-member selection committee will meet in December to determine the first class of inductees.

The induction ceremony will take place at halftime of the February 4 Indian Hills basketball game against Southeastern CC.

A special public reception for those entering the Hall will be held after the game.
