Truman women’s golfer Jen Lawson (’11) trimmed nine shots off her first-round score, firing a 78 with a pair of birdies in round two, but her two-day total of 165 came up six shots short of making the cut at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship, hosted by the United States Golf Association at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
Lawson was at +9 through her round before closing with back-to-back birdies on the 299-yard par-3 and 522-yard par-5 to bring her into contention after becoming one of the first golfers to finish the second round.
However, the projected cut line never dropped lower than 162 for a two-day total, settling eventually at 159 to slice the 156-player field to 64 for match play competition.
Lawson finished tied for 100th with 11 other golfers and was just ten shots away from placing in the top-30 of the prestigious event. For the event, she played the par-5 holes at even par and was +6 on par-3s.
