Truman women’s golfer Jen Lawson (’11) earned a spot as part of a prestigious field at next week’s U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship, hosted by the United States Golf Association at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore.
Lawson (Mahomet, Ill., Mahomet-Seymour) qualified at Lake Forest Country Club in Lake Saint Louis, Mo., on May 24, where she finished as the first alternate after shooting an 82.
She then received notification on Thursday afternoon regarding her acceptance into the field. Lawson’s first round will begin off the first tee on Monday (June 27) at 1:10 (PDT) p.m. on the Old Macdonald course.
Lawson was named all-MIAA in women’s golf as a senior after finishing second as an individual at the MIAA Championships in mid-April.
She placed in the top-5 nine times in 10 total events last season, yet did not earn an NCAA regional bid as an individual.
Lawson was a member of the Kevin White Team that placed third at the recent Mary Immaculate golf tournament.
She won three straight tournaments to close the fall portion of the schedule before earning another individual title and four additional top-5 finishes in the spring season.
She compiled a 643-51 record against all other competition and posted a stroke average of 78.9 in 20 rounds played.
This will be the third USGA competition held at historic Bandon Dunes.
Past winners of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links include current LPGA stars Michelle Wie and Tiffany Joh.
