(AP) -- Former NAIA all-American Matt Fitzpatrick will be joining the men’s basketball staff for the 2011-2012 season, Truman head coach Matt Woodley announced on Tuesday.
“I’ve known Matt for 20 years, and he will be a terrific addition to our coaching staff,” Woodley said. “He is a talented coach with a commitment to excellence and high-level integrity and character.”
Fitzpatrick comes to Truman after most recently spending the past six years as a high school assistant coach in the Davenport, Iowa-area.
Prior to his time at both Davenport Assumption and Davenport Central, he was an assistant at his alma mater, Saint Ambrose (Iowa) University in the 2004-2005 season.
During his four-year playing career at SAU from 2001-2004, Fitzpatrick helped guide the team to the national semifinals in 2004, a season which he garnered conference player of the year honors and first-team all-American accolades.
“Matt excels in all aspects of the profession, and his playing experience, instinctive basketball savvy and terrific all-around personality will serve our players and program extremely well,” Woodley said. “We are very happy to welcome Matt to our basketball family.”
