Truman freshman Ryan Maus received the Top Award for the Bulldog Wrestling team after leading the team with a 30-14 overall record and a trip to the NCAA Division II Championships. Maus, along with seniors Chad Kurvoski and Andy Bader were honored recently at the team awards banquet in Kirksville.
Maus came up just two points short of earning All-America honors at the 2011 championships in March while competing in his first season in the 141-pound collegiate weight class.
On the season, he had six wins by fall, six by tech fall and four major victories and did not lose a match by any of those means this year.
Also honored at the banquet were the nine members of the squad that earned academic honors through the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
Bader, Kurvoski, Ryan Banning, Colton Schmitz, Max Muench, Warren Galloway, Jordan Powell, Thomas Redmon and Zach Hayes were among the 160 Division II wrestlers to earn academic honors and helped the team to a second place finish in Division II for the Academic team title.
Bader and Kurvoski were named to the 2010-2011 Who’ s Who Among Student in American Universities and Colleges Award by Truman.
