FAYETTE, MO. -- Jennifer Zweifel set a new Truman record in the women’s triple jump on Saturday as the Track & Field teams competed at the Central Methodist Open on Saturday in Fayette. Zweifel leaped 40-08.25 to break Katrina Biermann’s 2010 mark.
Zweifel’s jump was the third best in Division II this season and came on her second jump of the day. However, she finished second in the event to Lindenwood University’s Celia M’Boua (41-09.50). Melissa Norville of Illinois College bettered Zweifel’s 19-00.25 in the long jump.
Anne Ratermann (1500 meter run) and Debbie Boedeker (3000 meter steeplechase) brought home the other individual second place finishes for the women with the Truman relay teams finished first in two of the three events.
Karen and Cindy Grauel along with Ratermann and Katie Hirsch took first in the 4x800 relay while Amber Clayton, Kirstin Lowry, Lisa Kucharski and Shaina Dochterman won the 4x400 relay race.
The women’s team finished second out of 19 teams with 86.5 points.
The men’s 4x800 relay team consisting of Ryan Peterson, Michael Gambach, Joey Walls and Matthew Schaefer won their race with a time of 8:00.49 for the only event win for the squad.
Walls had another strong outing in the 1500 as he finished second with a time of 3:57.49. Zach Chapman was sixth in the same race.
John Venner was fourth in the steeplechase while Bob Gorman was five seconds behind in fifth.
Demetrius Lavant bettered his season top mark in the long jump with a leap of 22-06.75.
The teams will return to action at the Jim Duncan Invitational hosted by Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa next weekend.
