Truman head men’s basketball coach Matt Woodley has announced the hiring of Todd Lorensen to join his staff as an assistant coach. Lorensen comes to Truman after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

In his three seasons at UNO, Lorensen helped lead the Mavericks to a 58-29 record and both an MIAA tournament championship and an NCAA tournament appearance in 2010.

He coached six all-conference selections, two all-region honorees and an all-American. Under head coach Derrin Hansen, Lorensen’s primary duties included scouting, game preparation, film exchange, travel coordination, directing summer camps and recruiting.

Lorensen moved to Omaha following a one-year stint at his alma mater, Grand View (Iowa) University, where he was the assistant men’s basketball coach and recruiting coordinator.

At GVU, he coached three all-conference players, the conference’s newcomer of the year and an all-American.

His one recruiting class included two junior college all-Americans that led Grand View to back-to-back conference championships and two NAIA tournament appearances.

A native of Monroe, Iowa, Lorensen played at Quincy (Ill.) University, garnering academic all-conference honors, before transferring to Grand View, where he scored more than 1,000 points in his final three seasons of eligibility.

He was a three-time academic all-conference award recipient and led the team in both scoring and assists each of this final two seasons.

He earned his degree from GVU in Business Administration with a certificate in Sports Management. In 2009, he earned his Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) with a Marketing concentration.
