Truman freshman softball player Kelsey Bollman has been named the MIAA Hitter of the Week for March 8, as selected by a conference SID panel and announced on Tuesday by the conference office.
Bollman hit .667 with four extra-base hits in the Bulldogs’ 3-1 weekend at the Missouri Southern Invitational.
Bollman who is hitting a team-high .468 in her first season, posted four multi-hit games to run her hitting streak to 12.
She started with a three-hit effort against Upper Iowa, in which she hit a tape-measure homerun, scored twice and stole a base, before wrapping up day one of the tournament with another three-hit outing, this time recording an RBI single.
Then, on Sunday, she went 2-for-3 in a win against UIS, manufacturing the game’s first run in the top of the first before adding an insurance sacrifice fly late.
She then blasted a leadoff homerun against NSU and brought Truman close in the final inning by doubling home two in the bottom of the seventh.
For the weekend, Bollman posted an OPS of 1.825 and saw her batting average decline in a pair of two-hit games.
She recorded four of her season-high seven multi-hit games over the weekend, all against Div. II regional opponents, and helped the Bulldogs move to 9-7 overall on the year.
She becomes the first Bulldog to be named MIAA Hitter of the Week since April 29, 2008, when Christen Belcher picked up the honor.
Truman hosts Lincoln (Mo.) University on Saturday afternoon at 1 pm to kick off the home portion of its 2011 schedule.
It is also the MIAA opener for the Bulldogs with admission always free at the Truman Softball Park.
