(AP) -- Cyclist Lance Armstrong is scheduled to
attend a Springfield fundraising event next month.
Armstrong has been named guest of honor for the Boys & Girls
Clubs of Springfield's fundraiser on April 12.
Pat Gartland, executive director of the clubs, said getting
Armstrong to speak at the event was thanks to Larry O'Reilly, an
avid bicyclist and retired president and CEO of O'Reilly
Automotive.
Armstrong is best known for winning the Tour de France a record
seven times.
The Springfield News-Leader reports that this will be the 15th
year Boys & Girls Clubs has held the sports-focused fundraiser. The
event nets more than $100,000 for the three Boys & Girls Clubs
units.
Last year, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees attended.
