Junior Mary Manley went 5-for-9 with six RBI, and sophomore Laura Miller continued her blistering start to 2011 with a 4-for-7 day, scoring four times, as the Truman softball team swept Drury (Mo.), 12-9 and 9-6, on Monday afternoon to close a six-game road trip.

The Bulldogs (6-6) pounded out 23 hits in the two games and capitalized on a sloppy Panther squad that committed ten errors to pick up a pair of victories.

Truman wasted no time in game one to get the bats rolling, as a Bridget Schade grand slam in the first inning complemented a Manley RBI single to help give the Bulldogs a 5-0 commanding lead.

The ’Dogs would stretch the margin to 11-3, before Drury posted a six-run fourth to close to within 11-9.

However, Truman would clamp down from there, holding the Panthers scoreless in the final three frames while tacking on an insurance run in the seventh for the 12-9 victory.

Game two was a similar story, with the Bulldogs opening up a 6-1 lead through just an inning and a half.

Truman needed just five hits total to get those six runs across, punctuated by a two-RBI double for Manley in the top of the first. Drury then helped Truman push the lead to five by committing four errors in the second.

After DU closed the gap to 6-4 in the third, another Manley RBI single in the fourth, followed by a Michelle Ingles RBI double in the fifth gave the ’Dogs an 8-4 edge.

Truman would get one more off two Panther errors in the seventh to pick up a 9-6 win.

A pair of long relievers picked up victories in the circle for Truman, as Beth Schnurbusch threw 3.2 innings of relief in game one for the win, while Kirsten Krause moved to 2-0 on the season following her three inning outing in game two. Elizabeth Grover earned a rare four-inning save, giving up just one earned run and striking out five.

The Bulldogs return to the southwest part of the state this weekend for a second straight Missouri Southern Invitational.
