(AP) -- Truman State University men’s basketball senior Alex Henderson was named a third-team Capital One Academic all-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Tuesday afternoon, marking the 95thTruman student-athlete to achieve the honor.
Henderson (Willard, Mo., Willard) was the only Division II player listed on the College Division’s top-three teams, which consist of players from Divisions II and III, as well as NAIA.
After being named a first-team Academic all-District player each of the past two seasons,
Henderson broke through this year by posting a cumulative 3.94 grade-point average in Biology and leading the Bulldogs at 14.3 points per game.
He ranks in the MIAA’s top-ten in three-point percentage, shooting 40%, and is one of just two Bulldogs to start all 24 games this season.
For his career, Henderson has totaled 992 career points in 104 games.
He becomes the first men’s basketball player to be named a CoSIDA Academic all-American since 2000 and is the sixth player in program history.
The award puts Truman atop all Division II programs since the program’s inception in 1952, passing fellow MIAA-member Pittsburg (Kan.) State with 95 total honorees.
Truman has seen 52 student-athletes recognized since 2000, also the most in Division II.
