DES MOINES, IOWA -- Here’s a wrap up of Class 1A from the state wrestling tournament in Des Moines on Wednesday.
Sigourney-Keota’s lone state qualifer, senior Cory Clubb pinned Joe Bitz in the first round of the 119 lb weight class.
Eddyville-Blakesburg had a great day Wednesday. Nathan VanZante won 15-0 and will move on in the 130 lb bracket. Jake Crosby won a hard fought decision 5-2 and advanced in the 171 lb bracket. Brett Roberts dominated a 9-3 decision in the 160 lb weight class. Jason Crosby lost in the first round of the championship bracket but bounced back in the consolation round to stay alive.
Pekin has all three members of their team still alive for Thursday. Jacob Cooley won a hard fought 12-7 decision in the 152 lb bracket. Austyn Vogel and Aaron King were making their state tournament debut. They both lost opening round matches but bounced back with pins in the consolation round.
Cardinal’s Josh Fuhs lost his opening round match but didn’t leave Des Moines without a win. He won a 10-4 decision in the consolation bracket.
Here’s a wrap up of Class 2A from the state wrestling tournament in Des Moines on Wednesday.
Albia came ready to roll. Freshman Shadow Leshen escaped with a 12-8 decision. Dakotah Poe won by fall and Matt White also advanced with the 17-0 T-Fall. Griffin Osing, the 145 lb wrestler lost in both the championship and consolation brackets.
Fairfield’s two wrestlers advanced in the championship bracket. Dakota Simmons won by forfeit and Jeff Guttry by pin.
Centerville’s Tanner Cowan advanced in the winner’s bracket as well as his teammate Kyler Risher in the 140 lb weight class. Their other teammate Richard England lost both his matches Wednesday.
Davis County’s Jeremiah Garber lost twice at 140 lbs ending his season that did include the title of 2011 state qualifier. His teammate Dylan Nelson lost in the championship bracket but bounced back in the consolation bracket to remain alive in the tournament.
