AMES, IOWA -- The Truman Track & Field teams competed in one of the largest meets of the season at the Iowa State University Open on Friday and Saturday in Ames. Eight Bulldogs achieved season-best marks in the third meet of the season.
Jennifer Zweifel brought home two second place finishes in both the triple and long jumps. Zweifel leaped 38-04.75 in the triple and 18-01.00 in the long.
Karen Grauel set a personal best with a second place finish in the 5000 meter seeded race with a time of 17:36.54 while Cindy Grauel also record a best time with a sixth place finish crossing in 18:10.44.
Shaina Dochterman took eighth in the 400 with a time of 58.73.
Other season bests on the women’s side were all set in a crowded 200 meter field as Brittni Campbell (26.77), Kaci Sargent (27.28) and Becca Nelson (28.16) were among the 95 competitors in the race.
John Venner had the best overall finish on the men’s side as he placed sixth in the non-seeded 3000 meter race. Venner cross the finish line in 9:06.06 and edged out teammate Andrew Sheets, who placed ninth.
Sophomore Andy Viehmann recorded a personal best in the shot put with a mark of 48-00.75 and took home an eighth place finish. Viehmann’s previous best was also set at the Iowa State Open a year ago and was three feet shorter (45-00.25).
Ryan Peterson set a season best in the 400 (51.36), Joey Walls in the 3000 (8:42.55) and Matt Wisniewski in the weight throw (47-05.75).
The teams will be back in action in two weeks at the Dr. Jim Green Invitational at Illinois College.
