The Truman Women’s basketball team returns to the floor for their final non-conference game of the season as they will play at the University of Illinois-Springfield on Wednesday.

It will be the start of a three-game road trip for the Bulldogs who will face Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Omaha next week during the holiday break.  Both the Bulldogs and Prairie Stars are 4-4 on the season.

Truman will be looking for their third straight road victory in their first visit to the UIS campus.

The Bulldogs are coming off a pair of losses to top 10 teams in the nation in Washburn (Kan.) and Emporia State at home on consecutive Saturdays.  Truman led at half in both games.

Junior Breanna Daniels leads Truman with a 15.9 points per game mark and has scored in double-figures over the past 13 games dating back to last season.

Freshman Nicole Gloor is second on the team in scoring at 12.3 points per game and made her first collegiate start against Emporia in Truman’s last game.

The Bulldogs are ranked in the top five in the MIAA in scoring defense (61.0/ppg allowed-5th), field goal percentage (.414 – 5th), defensive three-point field goal percentage (.279 – 3rd), free throw percentage (.738 – 2nd), rebounding defense (22.0 – 2nd), and rebounding margin (+3.9 – 4th).

Illinois-Springfield opened the season with a 3-1 record with wins over Robert Morris (69-63) , Lincoln (62-44) and Blackburn 76-71.

The Prairie Stars lost three straight Division II games to GLVC members Drury (70-60) and Missouri S&T (60-46) and to Oakland City (75-67).

They were victorious against Eureka College on Dec. 18th by an 87-70 tally.

Paulia Pogorzelski leads the team in scoring and leads the GLVC in rebounding.

The 6-1 senior averages 14.1 points per game and has pulled down 7.9 rebounds per contest. She is also second in the conference with a 1.4 blocks per game average.

The Prairie Stars are second in the GLVC in defensive field goal percentage (.358) and in steals per game (10.9).

They shoot the ball at a 40% clip and 35% from beyond the arc.  UIS averages 6.1 three-pointers per game and 66.1 points per game.

Last Year’s Recap:

This will be the sixth meeting between the Bulldogs and Prairie Stars and first ever meeting in Springfield.

The previous five have all been played in Kirksville.

Last year, Truman finished the first half on an 18-3 run and held on for a 69-62 victory over Illinois-Springfield.

Breanna Daniels scored a team-high 16 points while Amy Galey dished out six assists to go along with her 11 points.

Erin Glogovsky led the Prairie Stars with 17 points and 16 rebounds but will now wear the Bulldog uniform after transferring to Truman this past summer.

Just two players on the UIS roster played in the game at Truman last year.

Paulina Pogrozelski had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Emmarie Snyder did not score but had three assists in 33 minutes.

Up Next:

The Bulldogs will play at Fort Hays State next Monday, Jan. 3rd and at the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Jan. 5th before returning home for three straight MIAA games.  The Tigers are 2-3 in the conference and 5-4 overall while the Mavericks are 1-4 in the league and 4-5 overall.
