PITTSBURG, KAN. -- The Truman women’s basketball team outscored the Pittsburg State Gorillas 32-13 over the final 16 minutes of play and picked up a 55-46 MIAA road victory on Saturday afternoon.  Breanna Daniels and Nicole Gloor led the 2-0 MIAA ‘Dogs with 14 points apiece.

“This was a tremendous win for our program,” said Coach Michael Smith in his postgame radio interview.  “To be down and 10 and come out with passion and fire from the locker room, we were able to turn the tide in the second half and take control of this game.

The Gorillas (2-4; 0-2 MIAA) led by 10 at half and matched that margin following Courtney Tate’s free throw at the 16:02 mark.  Gloor buried Truman’s only three-pointer of the game about a minute later to once again spark the Bulldogs.  The freshman has come off the bench in each of the last three games to score in double figures.

Becka McHenry gave Truman (3-2; 2-0 MIAA) the lead with 10 minutes left at 36-35 and the Bulldog defense clamped down while steadily pulling away to go 2-0 in the conference for the first time since 2007-08.

McHenry joined Daniels and Gloor in double figures with 10 points while Amy Galey pulled down a career-high nine rebounds.  Truman outrebounded the Gorillas by a 40-31 margin.

Truman shot 41% from the field and made just one of seven three-point attempts.  Pittsburg State shot just 33% from the floor and made four of 19 long range attempts.

Tate and Drew Roberts led the Gorillas in scoring with 17 points apiece.

Truman led 6-2 early but fell behind 29-19 at the half.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday night against Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo.  Tip off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
