Truman State University’s women’s basketball coach Michael Smith has announced the signing of three high school seniors during the early November signing period.

Allie Norton, Aqua Corpening and Allison Wiese have all signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Bulldogs in 2011-2012.

“Overall – I’m really excited about this Fall recruiting class,” said Coach Smith.  “Again we are continuing to find quality people that understand the game and have a winning background that will only help our program in the future.”

Norton is a 5’6 point guard from Central Catholic High School in Bloomington, Ill.  She is the younger sister of men’s basketball player Tom Norton.

During her junior season, Norton averaged 14 points and five assists while being named first team all-conference and all-state.

She was selected to the State Farm Classic All-Tournament team and was a Chicago Tribune All-Class All-Tournament selection.

She competed in the Illinois High School Athletics Association Quincy of the Hill tournament was the three-point champion in all classes.

She led her team to a 29-1 record and an IHSAA Class 2 State Championship.

“Allie brings us a true pt. guard that knows the game and knows how to win.

She brings a great basketball IQ to our program at a position that we will lose to graduation.

Her ability to shoot the basketball from anywhere on the floor makes her a threat as soon as she steps on the court,” said Smith.

Aqua Corpening is a 5’10 guard that will be playing her senior season at Hickman High School in Columbia, Mo.

Corpening was a Missouri Basketball Coaches Association All-State selection as a junior as she averaged 17 points and six rebounds per game.

She was also named to the Class 5, District 9 all- tournament team.

“Aqua has a chance to become a dominating player in our league.

She has a strong athletic frame and has the ability to break people down off the dribble or pull up for the three pointer.

Her best basketball is still in front of her and we are excited it will be in a Truman uniform, “said Smith.

Allison Wiese is a 5’9 guard that is playing at Geneseo High School in Geneseo, Ill.

Wiese was a unanimous first team all-North Central Illinois Conference selection as well as garnering all-Metro and All-Western Illinois accolades last season.

She averaged nine points, five rebounds and four assists while leading the Maple Leafs to a 21-6 overall record.

“Allison can play the 1-3 positions and will have one of the best shooting touches on the team.

She currently plays the point for her high school team and led them to their first regional championship last year in eight years.

I really like Allison’s versatility and think she’ll fit in well within our team philosophy here,” said Smith.

The 2010-2011 Bulldogs will begin their season on Friday at the Nova Southeastern (Fla.) Marriott Tip-Off Classic.

Truman will play Barry University (Fla.) at 4:30 p.m. and host school Nova at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
