OTTUMWA, IA -- The Indian Hills Community College backcourt duo of Dwight Buycks and Dwight Hardy have been named All-Americans by the National Junior College Athletic Association. Buycks, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was named to the ten-player All-American first team while Hardy, from Bronx, New York, was a third-team selection.
Buycks led Indian Hills in scoring at 17.5 points a game during the 2008-09 season. He was also the team-leader in free throws (139), free throw attempts (176), free throw percentage (79%), assists (159) and steals (52). Buycks averaged 17.8 points a game as a freshman.
Hardy ended his two-year IHCC career as the school’s single-season and career leader in three-point field goals and three-point attempts. He made a record 102 3’s as a freshman and his two-season total was 173.
Hardy’s average was 13.9 this past season after a team-leading 18.7 points a game as a freshman when the Warriors finished sixth at the national tournament. Buycks and Hardy were both named to the all-tournament team at the national tourney and Hardy led the entire tournament field in scoring.
The talented tandem led Indian Hills to a 58-13 record over the last two years. Buycks started all 71 games and Hardy started every game but one, when he was injured. Each player joined the IHCC 1,000 point club this past season. Buycks finished with 1,254 points and Hardy scored 1,163.
Buycks was named an Honorable Mention All-American as a freshman. Both he and Hardy were named to the All-Region 11 first team each of the last two seasons.
Buycks will head to Marquette University in his hometown of Milwaukee after leaving Indian Hills. Hardy signed last fall to attend St. John’s University in New York.
The selection of Buycks marks the third time in the last four seasons that IHCC has had a first-team All-American choice. Jamaal Smith was named to the first team in 2006 and Nestor Colmenares was a first-team pick in 2007.
