Truman men’s basketball junior forward Mike Carlson was named third-team all-MIAA, while senior guard Tom Norton and sophomore guard Seth Jackson received honorable mention accolades, announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Carlson (Superior, Wis., Marshall) averaged a team-leading 16.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per game during the regular season, ranking sixth in scoring and 11th in rebounding in the MIAA.

He also recorded 36 blocks and added 37 steals, all while shooting 52% overall from the floor and 88% from the free throw line.

Carlson scored a season-high 29 points in the 63-56 regular season finale victory at Northwest Missouri on March 2 and topped the 20-point mark eight times during the season.

He added four double-doubles and led the Bulldogs in scoring in 14 of the team’s 26 games.

Jackson and Norton each picked up honorable mention honors for the second consecutive season after finishing second and third on the team in scoring.

Jackson (St. Louis, Mo., CBC) averaged 12.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, while Norton (Bloomington, Ill., Central Catholic) scored 11.4 points per game and drained a team-high 61 three-pointers.

Norton finished the regular season atop the MIAA in both free throw shooting (90.2%) and three-pointers per game (2.9).

The Bulldogs, who play in the MIAA first round on Monday night in Pittsburg, Kan., finished the regular season with a 10-16 mark, winning the most games by a Truman squad since the 2006-07 season.

Washburn’s Will McNeill was named the MIAA Player of the Year, while Marky Nolen (Pittsburg State) earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Fort Hays State took home both the Freshman of the Year (Craig Nicholson) and Coach of the Year (Mark Johnson) accolades.
