TOPEKA, Kan. – The #9 Washburn Lady Blues used a 10-0 run over a two minute span in the first half and had to hold off a Bulldog rally for a 52-47 defensive battle on the road Wednesday night.

Truman’s Jennifer Conway led the Bulldogs with 12 points as the Bulldogs’ five-game winning streak was halted.

The Bulldogs (12-3; 5-2 MIAA) led 9-0 before Casyn Buchman keyed the 10-0 Washburn (11-2; 5-0 MIAA) run.

Truman kept within reach throughout the contest despite shooting just 29% for the game and 23% for beyond the arc.

Bianca Szfarowicz’s basket with 7:31 to play cut the lead to three at 44-41.

Szfarowicz finished with seven points and nine rebounds.

The Lady Blues pushed it back to seven before Becka McHenry converted on a three-point play and later Conway got the Bulldogs to within a deuce with a make with 1:03 showing.

Stormye Everett’s three-pointer with 31 seconds showing was blocked by Szfarowicz as the shot clock was winding down.

The officials conferred but did not use replay and put a second back on the shot clock.

On the inbounds play, Everett found Laura Kinderknecht, who juked and dribbled and got the shot off before the second expired to put the Lady Blues up five with 26 seconds on the clock.

The clocks in Lee Arena had malfunctioned previously during the game.

McHenry would miss a pair of desperation three-point heaves.

McHenry and Amy Briggs each finished with 11 points while Kinderknecht led Washburn and all scorers with 17.

The Bulldogs will return home to face #11 Central Missouri at 1:00 p.m. in Pershing Arena on Saturday afternoon.
