Truman State starts its home wrestling season Thursday

The Truman Wrestling team will compete at home for the first of six times this winter when they host Missouri Valley College on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in Pershing Arena. Both the Bulldogs and Vikings are 1-0 in dual competition this season.
 
The Bulldogs defeated Hannibal-LaGrange 36-10 on November 13th. JJ Dorrell, Alex Maus, Ryan Maus, Dustin McLintock, Colton Schmitz, Ryan Ward and Helmut Rentschler all had their hand raised for the Bulldogs in the win with Dorrell and Ryan Maus picked up pinfall wins.
 
Truman is unranked as a team in Division II but junior Ryan Maus is ranked seventh in the nation in the 149-pound weight class.

Ryan comes into the dual with a 6-2 season record and a 58-28 career mark, three of his six wins have come via fall.
 
The Vikings needed a 9-8 decision by heavyweight Dan Mueller to pull out a 19-16 win over Missouri Baptist in their only dual this season.

Jake Esker, Gian Traverso, Jamall Bufford and Josh Manu had the other wins for Missouri Valley.
 
The Vikings were a preseason 16th in the NAIA Coaches Poll but vaulted to fourth in the first season ranking.

They have six wrestlers scheduled to compete on Thursday ranked among NAIA wrestlers.
 
Featured Match:
Both Ryan Maus and Jake Ekster are ranked nationally and are scheduled to compete against one another

.Maus is seventh in Division II while Ekster is fourth in the NAIA.
 
Dual History:
The Vikings have a 15-5 dual record against the Bulldogs dating back to the first match-up in the 1967 season. 

 Truman’s last win was during the 1998-99 season by a score of 43-6.
 
Up Next:


Truman will head to Simpson (Iowa) College this weekend for a tournament and then face William Penn (Iowa) next Wednesday in their final dual before the holiday break.

 Truman will next be in action at home on January 11th in the MIAA opener against Lindenwood (Mo.) at 7:30 p.m.

 It will be the first conference dual match since 1986.
