FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- Michael Fritz is a well spoken and intelligent eighth grader who accels at everything he does. He's the second chair saxaphonist in the school band, a straight-A student in all accelerated classes, and a 3-sport athlete. Although he shines in all these activities, he's brightest on the mat.

Michaels father and coach Joe Fritz says Michael was eager to start wrestling, but just because he was eager doesn't mean he enjoyed it right away. Luckily he stuck with it, and he started winning. This year Michael wrestled at 170 and to challenge himself he decided to make a few goals. One, to go undefeated. Two, to pin all his opponents; and three, to not have a point scored on him. Not a point, really? As impossible as that sounds, Michael did just that. He went 22 and 0 during the regular season, he pinned every opponent and didn't have a point scored on him. With credentials like these you may ask 'who does a kid like that look up to? You don't have to look too far.

Seth Davisson is a senior at fairfield high school who just took 5th at state in the same weight class Michael wrestles in now. Michael looks up to Davisson who believe's Michael could easily find himself on the state podium.

Michael's appreciates all the support his friends and family have given him through the years, but loves the fact that his success on the mat reflects solely on the amount of work that he puts in. Michael plans to eventually wrestle in college and as of now, hopes to attend Iowa State to become an engineer. With the achievement of this seasons goals, he shouldn't have much problem doing just about anything he sets his mind to.
