DES MOINES, IOWA -- Mount Pleasant finished its season with a 62-50 win against Norwalk Saturday to finish third in Class 3A.
Despite the Panthers being down three points at the half, Mount Pleasant stormed out of the break for a 21-point third quarter. Jordan Ashton led the Panthers with 19 points
"Give the kids credit,” said head coach Paul Rundquist. “They really moved the ball well there late third quarter in the second half and got the job done."
The impressive part of Ashton’s performance was that the junior guard came off the bench.
“My shots were falling today,” said Ashton. “They were face guarding (Scott Hahn) so I knew I had to step up."
Coach Rundquist was beaming after the game. He considers this year’s team the best to ever play at Mount Pleasant.
“I told them I love’em,” said a proud Rundquist. “We’ve come along way and this group of kids deserve to go out with a win.”
For seniors like guard Scott Hahn playing in their final game in their high school career this will be a memory that lasts a lifetime.
“High school basketball is something you can’t forget,” said Hahn. “I’m never going to forget any of these guys. I love my guys. I love how we played up here this year and I wouldn’t trade them for anybody.”
